SCOUTING FOR FOOD
It's that time of year again good Scouters of the Zekiah District.
That's right, Scouting for Food. Last year many of the Packs, Troops
and Crews of the Zekiah District participated and collected an
incredible 20,000 pounds! These foods were distributed to nearly a
dozen wildly grateful food pantries throughout Charles County. With the
current economy and the ever rising mortgage foreclosures within our
communities the need this year is sadly more essential than ever before.
Please stop by the Scouting for Food table at the October Roundtable at
the Izaak Walton League on Wednesday, October 8th at 7:00 p.m. and
confirm your areas covered from last year and give serious consideration
to taking on more to help our neighbors who aren't fairing quite as
well. While we have your areas from last year, along with the number of
bags you distributed, we would REALLY appreciate your stopping by to
confirm your unit coordinator information as well as the other data.
If you have this information now, please feel free to email Toni McGowan
directly at tntmcgowan@comcast.net.
2009 Inaugural Activities
We anticipate that the National Capital Area Council, Boy Scouts of America (NCAC) will be once again asked to provide service at Inaugural Day activities on and around January 20, 2009, but the level of that participation is unknown at this point. Information will be posted on the NCAC website and sent out via E-source as soon as it becomes available. Once posted online application to participate will be due by November 30, 2008. Please contact Jennifer Gayle at 301-214-9116 or jgayle@lflmail.org for additional information.

Cub and Boy Scout Leader Training
October 11th, 9 a.m. – 4:00 pm
Please Pre-register by clicking on the below link
http://www.boyscouts-ncac.org/Registration/RegLogon.asp
A question often asked is if someone who received training last year needs to go to training again this year. The answer is easy as the training you received last year was 'leader specific.' With in Cub Scouts there are three leader groups: Tigers, Wolf/Bear and WEBELOS.
If you have received training as one of these leaders and you are staying within the same group for the next year, you do not need to be trained. As an example if you received WEBELOS training last year and you were the WEBELOS I leader and this year you are the WEBELOS II leader, no new training is needed. However, if last year you received Den Leader training for Bear and this year you are the WEBELOS I leader, then you must get training for the WEBELOS position.

Prince George District Mini-Camporee
The Prince George’s District will be holding a Mini-Jamboree and they have invited our units to participate since we are in their Field Area now. It is being held October 24-26. I know it is when our ordeal is, but I also know that everyone in our units will not be at the ordeal so this may be one of the things the scouts may want to participate in that weekend.
For more information, download the flyer: Mini-Camporee (PDF format)
Hazardous Weather Online Training
http://olc.scouting.org/
Click on WEATHER HAZARDS. This should be a required training for anyone going on outings that are out-of-doors to be aware of early warning signs of dangerous, life threatening, weather conditions that can happen within a few minutes.
NOW IN EFFECT - There is a new Eagle Scout Application form, dated 2008 THAT MUST NOW BE USED. EDITIONS OF THE APPLICATION WITH PREVIOUS DATES ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTED BY THE NATIONAL COUNCIL IN TEXAS and therefore by the NCAC. Obtain and use the correct version by clicking on the picture (left) or one of the links below. Doing this will avoid creating a problem for your eagle scout candidate if you use older versions of the application. If there are older forms currently in the system, please redo them and obtain each of the appropriate signatures.
