NEW

Order of the Arrow:

You may have heard by now that Montgomery District has been split into three new Districts: Potomac, Seneca and White Oak.

We are still one Chapter - Montgomery Chapter.   We still meet the third Sunday of each month at St. Patrick's Church, Norbeck Road, Rockville. Next meetings will be February 19th, March 18th, and April 15th.

In preparation for the Montgomery Chapter to split into 3 chapters you will be getting e-mails about having meetings within your boundaries. But please still attend the Montgomery Chapter Meetings on the 3rd Sunday of each month.

Potomac (Central Montgomery County) meeting: 7:30 - 8:15 PM

We'll have pizza and sodas for as long as they last.  A full meeting agenda includes upcoming activities among other topics of interest.  Please come and support your Chapter.  Get a ride from an adult leader that’s coming to Roundtable!

Seneca (Upper Montgomery County) meeting: 7:30PM – 8:30PM,

This THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9TH, at the Gaithersburg Presbyterian Church, 610 Frederick Ave., Gaithersburg, MD, during the Cub and Boy Scout roundtables.  We will meet in the room off of the Boy Scout Roundtable room on the lower level.

IT's CHARTER RENEWAL TIME . . . The online window opens for registration and renewal on 1 December 2011, and may be completed at any time prior to the current Charter expiration (31 January 2012), but remember to allow for the online completion, the gathering of necessary signatures (unit leader and chartering organization executive officer), and review by your Commissioner prior to that 1/31/12 turn in deadline.  Hint:  have your membership inventory completed, your funds collected, your new applications in hand, and get online on 12/1 and get it over with before the holidays tie up your time and things get put-off and forgotten.  Then gather up your completed package, your unit's blank check, and head to one of the early turn-ins and have it over with.

Turn in may be accomplished at any time through your Commissioner.

Questions may be addressed to your Montgomery Area Deputy District Commissioner:

THREE SCOUT DISTRICTS TO BE FORMED IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY
As a result of a special Task Group convened earlier this year that gathered inputs and survey responses from more than 150 adult volunteers from throughout Montgomery County, the National Capital Area Council has agreed to form three Scout Districts in Montgomery County instead of the current single Montgomery District. Effective January, 2012, the three new districts will be aligned closely with the Eastern, Central, and Upper administrative areas of the current Montgomery District.

Between now and January, 2012, these boundaries will be fine-tuned, district names will be created, and district chairman and other leaders will be identified. A Nominating Committee chaired by Steve Drake has been tasked with identifying candidates for each of the three districts. Steve is interested in hearing from you or other Scouters you may know who are interested in nominating themselves or others. Please contact him at sdrake@verizon.net or during business hours on 301-680-0585 if you, or others you know, are interested in participating in district leadership.

Each of the new districts will have two professional District Executives to work with the volunteers. These professionals will be identified and named by Council in the coming months.

Montgomery County will also become its own Field Service Area led by an “Area Key3”: John Hanson, Assistant Council Vice President, Steve Robillard, Assistant Council Commissioner, and Clinton Hammett, professional Field Director. The Area Key3 will oversee the development of the three districts and will provide ongoing County-wide coordination for Scouting with the three districts.

PLEASE NOTE: during the transition to three districts, all Montgomery District events and activities will continue as currently scheduled.

For further information or questions, please contact John Hanson at 301-807-2844 or john.hanson@wellsfargoadvisors.com

BSA Must Read: Youth Protection Training Credit and Member IDs

Some of the individuals who have completed the BSA's Youth Protection Training do not have member IDs associated with their MyScouting accounts. This week, the National Council will send e-mails to those individuals reminding them to update their MyScouting accounts with their member ID in order to receive credit for the YPT training. (Some recipients of the e-mail may not be registered volunteers and will have no member ID.)

The reminder will be sent to people who completed Youth Protection (Y01) or Venturing Youth Protection (Y02), but do not have a member ID posted to their MyScouting profiles. The e-mail will stress the importance of associating their ID with their profile so that they can receive the appropriate credit for this important training. Additionally, it will explain the methods for finding their member ID and instructions for updating their MyScouting profile.

Please be aware of this important communication and continue to encourage all leaders to take the BSA's Youth Protection Training.
