CENTENNIAL CAMPOREE (May 29-31, 2010 Memorial Day Weekend)
Almost 8,000 Cub Scouts, Webelos, Boy Scouts, Venturers and their leaders and families converged at Goshen Scout Reservation to celebrate the 100 years of Scouting. They experienced re-enactments, skill games, leadership contests and a special arena show! It was big, it was exciting, and it was memorable! Thank you everyone for registering for the NCAC Centennial Camporee!
Attention Scouts & Scouters!
We want your best photos, videos and memories from the Centennial Camporee! A panel of judges will select the best photos and memories for use in the Centennial Scouter’s Digest, and a Post-Action Report to the Council. The deadline to submit photos, videos and memories is June 30, so please hurry while the excitement is still fresh in your memory!
Centennial Scouting on the Mall (July 23 - August 8, 2010)
What a great time for all. This showcase of All Things Scouting was situated near the Washington Monument and the World War II Memorial. It was an "almost"continuous 16-day presence in which our very own Scouts demonstrated every aspect of Scouting in the Nation's Capital, including Scout craft, merit badges, camping, service projects, and geo-Scouting. We were joined by Adventure Base 100, the National BSA touring adventure show. Adventure Base 100 began its national tour at the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena, California, on New Year's Day. This edition of Scouting on the Mall was the longest Scouting presence on the National Mall in the history of the Boy Scouts of America! Scouting started right here in Washington, DC on February 8, 1910. For more information check out the Centennial Scouting on the Mall page.
Everyone loves a parade...especially when you can be in it...even if it's 100 degress in the shade!
The last time the Boy Scouts of America marched down Constitution Avenue, President Franklin Roosevelt reviewed them - all 27,000 Scouts! -as they lined both sides of Constitution Avenue for three miles during 1937 National Jamboree.
This time - on the day before the opening of the 100th Anniversary National Scout Jamboree - Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varisty Scouts, Venturers, Explorers, Scouting volunteers and supporters from all over the country gathered on Constitution Avenue to participate in the BSA Grand Centennial Parade. Floats, marching bands, balloons, horses, historic uniforms, flags, special guests, roughly 10,000 Scouts marched and reviewed this historic event!
Activities will enhance the physical readiness of Scouts and adults in units throughout the Council, and provide opportunities for annual national fitness competitions.
NCAC Prepares to Celebrate the BSA 100th Anniversary
Vision: A Purpose-Driven Anniversary Celebration
NCAC will deliver a purpose-driven celebration ? a sustained and coordinated effort that will allow us to share our powerful story in every community we serve.
Without question, this will include events around which we will gather to celebrate our important milestone. But, so too will this include an assertive and thoughtful effort to better communicate the tremendous value of Scouting in the National Capital Area Council while engaging Scouts, leaders, alumni, family, friends, and the public throughout the entire council.
A purpose-driven celebration includes activities that are fun and inspiring ? but also deliver meaningful results that will strengthen Scouting. With this as our celebration vision, we will conclude 2010 with more youth involved, more adults serving as volunteers, more financial supporters, and more positive impressions of Scouting throughout our communities.
Celebration Objectives
Our council plan has been developed and targeted to achieve these three outcomes:
All Scouts have an opportunity to participate in a centennial celebration.
